Between the Lions

 

     Although Cricket is not a popular sport in America. Many fans around the world enjoy cheering and following their favorite teams. Cricket is the world’s second most popular spectator sport after football. Some people say it is similar to American baseball. It does use a bat and ball like baseball, but it is a very different sport.

 

History of Cricket

 

Southeast England started cricket in the 18th century, It became the country’s national sport in the 18th century and has developed globally in the 19th and 20th centuries. International matches have been played since 1844 and test cricket began.

 

Growth of Test Cricket

 

The Imperial Cricket Conference ( as it was originally called) was found in 1909. Only England, Australia and South Africa were members. West indies (1928), New Zealand (1930) and India (1982) become Test nations before World War ll and Pakistan (1992) soon afterward Sri Lanka (1982) and Bangladesh (2000). All these countries are now part of Cricket World Cup.

 

First Cricket Match

 

The first grand match of cricket was played by members of The Royal Amteur Society on Hampton Court Green.
